Chotu Charpai

‘Chotu Charpai’ is a miniature version of the classic Indian folk furniture bed, showcasing exquisite craftwork. Made as an invitation for Ayush Kasliwal's 'Charpai Challenge,' an event supported by the Serendipity Arts Festival, a tiny 'Mortise and Tenon' frame is fitted onto four turned legs.

The weaver traditionally uses thread, rope, or even seat-belt strapping in a myriad of weaving patterns, frequently leaving one narrow end of the frame unwoven and raised to act as a 'pillow.' Chotu (meaning small) Charpai’s are a perfect desk accessory, ideal for holding pens and stationery. Unlike their full-sized counterparts, these miniatures make for a thoughtful gift box option while representing the remarkable construction and versatility of the Charpai.
